Project Hail Mary is my favourite feel-good movie of the year — and it’s on Prime Video this weekend | Daily Reports Online
Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling and based on the best-selling sci-fi book of the same name by Andy Weir, is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video in Australia.
It’s shaping up to be one of the best movies of 2026 so far, with TechRadar’s senior entertainment reporter, Tom Power, giving the film a glowing 4.5 stars. And he’s not alone — Project Hail Mary currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%, with audiences rating it higher at 95%. It’s also already the 2nd most-watched show on the platform today.
So, how pleased am I to learn it arrives on Amazon’s streaming platform at the perfect time, with the retailer’s biggest sale event, Prime Day, set to start next week.

Having seen Project Hail Mary myself, I am in complete agreement with the praise heaped by my colleague Tom and the Rotten Tomatoes scores — Project Hail Mary has become my favourite feel-good movie of the year, and to quote my colleague Tom’s review, it’s nothing short of “amaze, amaze, amaze” with how much it moved me. If you haven’t seen this movie yet, I can confidently say that you’re in for an absolute treat. And if you have seen it before, I’m positive that you’d want to watch it again.
The movie follows Gosling as a high school teacher who wakes up aboard a spaceship light-years from Earth, not remembering who he was and how he got there. He later finds out that he’s been tasked to save humanity by finding out more about a mysterious substance that’s causing our Sun to slowly die. He is joined by an adorable alien named Rocky in this adventure that puts you on the edge of your seat, while tugging on your heartstrings and tickling your funny bone in the process.
Once you’re done watching Project Hail Mary, there are plenty more options to choose from, too. New additions like Elle, the Legally Blonde prequel, Clarkson’s Farm season 5 and season 2 of Aussie sitcom Deadloch are some great ones to check out. Some older movies I can recommend on Prime Video are the classic comedies Superbad, Hot Fuzz and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
