Vivo X Flip Phone

Vivo X Flip Phone is the new major smartphone to launch a compact folding smartphone, similar to the Oppo Find N Flip and Galaxy Z Flip 4. Dubbed the Vivo X Flip, the phone retains a clamshell-like design, which is common across its counterparts. However, the front includes a wide horizontal screen to offer more viewing areas for calls and notifications. The front panel also includes two cameras, similar to the camera system on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Oppo Find N2.

Vivo has also launched its second-generation Vivo X Fold 2 foldable. Both phones have been introduced for the Chinese smartphone market, while global availability details remain unclear. Fan videos on YouTube suggest the Vivo X Fold 2 packaging includes a charger and protective case, which users do not get with the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Vivo X Flip price and availability

The Vivo X Flip is available in two storage options. Its price in China starts at CNY 5,999, which is roughly Rs 71,600 for the base 12GB RAM and 256GB storage option. The top model with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage costs CNY 6,699 (roughly Rs 80,000). Similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, the new Vivo folding smartphone comes in purple, black, and gold colour options.

Vivo has not shared any details about the Vivo X Flip’s global availability. The company reserved its first folding smartphone, the Vivo X Fold, for the China market, to see its reception from local customers and reviewers. Oppo experimented the same with its first Oppo Find N in 2021. This year, the company launched its first Flip folding phone, the Oppo Find N Flip for Rs Vivo X Flip.

Vivo may also consider launching one of its folding devices in India this year, though that’s just speculation. Safer to assume that if that happens, Vivo may wait until the end of the year since it’s planning to launch the Vivo X90 series in India soon.

Vivo X Flip features, specifications

While the outer display (3-inch AMOLED screen) on the Vivo X Flip is bigger than its counterparts, the screen offers only a 682×422 pixel resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. In its unfolded form, users can use a 6.7-inch tall display that offers 2,520×1,080 pixel resolution with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

Vivo has partnered with Qualcomm for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset to power the compact folding smartphone. The same SoC powers several flagships, including last year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. The camera system outside includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The rear cameras are co-developed with Zeiss.

There’s a 32-megapixel selfie camera housed inside the inner display. All the features are backed by a 4,400mAh battery with 44W fast charging support.

On the other hand, the X Fold 2 also comes with Zeiss-tuned triple rear cameras and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The Vivo X Fold 2 packs a 4,800mAh battery unit with 120W fast charging. Its price starts at CNY 8,999, which is roughly Rs 1,07,500 for the base 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option.
