OnePlus V Fold

The OnePlus V Fold was announced by OnePlus earlier this year, but we are yet to receive more details about the smartphone from the company. OnePlus’ first folding device will launch in the third quarter of 2023, though the exact date remains unclear. Ahead of the official launch, Smartprix, with tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (goes by OnLeaks), has published the phone’s first renders based on a prototype, which appears to be in the final stages. The report notes that the OnePlus V Fold may have minor tweaks as the product is still under development. The report adds that the OnePlus folding phone will not resemble the Oppo Find N2 Fold.

The renders showcase a black model with the Hasslebad branding on the back. The back may feature a faux leather finish to add more flair to the phone. The rest of the body may feature a mix of metal and glass. Notably, there might be an alert slider on the V Fold, which also features on several OnePlus phones. It helps users switch audio modes with a simple toggle switch. Alert sliders are also highly uncommon among folding phones.

The renders show a considerably flat rear camera module, which may not differ in real life. The round module will reportedly have three camera sensors, including a periscope-style camera. There could be two more camera sensors on the cover and main displays, respectively.

The report also notes some specifications of the OnePlus V Fold. Firstly, the smartphone may feature a 2K 120Hz AMOLED (LTPO) display and a yet-to-be-announced Qualcomm (SM8475) Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 SoC. OnePlus may also add up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage — a common memory configuration in recent OnePlus flagships.

There may also be a 4800mAh battery with 100W SuperVOOC charging support. It remains unclear whether OnePlus will add wireless charging support. The camera system will reportedly comprise a 50-megapixel (IMX 890) primary camera, an ultra-wide camera, and a periscope lens. The cover display may have a 32-megapixel selfie snapper inside a hole-punch cutout.

Unlike the Pixel Fold and folding phones from other Chinese counterparts, OnePlus may launch the V Fold in India as it enjoys massive popularity in India. OnePlus was among the trendsetters in the Android space for offering premium phones at a competitive price. It may gain an edge over rivals if the OnePlus V Fold is priced more aggressively in India. Tecno Phantom V Fold was the cheapest phone in India this year for Rs 88,888. Samsung’s folding phone costs over a lakh in India.
